The Quake Contesters (ZL3X) is a contest & DXpedition group formed in 2012 as a way of giving keen HF hams in the region something positive to contribute to after a literally earth-shattering series of events. Click here for more on the disastrous events of 2010 and 2011 which claimed 185 people and resulted in massive destruction of buildings and infrastructure.
We debuted as ZL3X in the CQ WW RTTY contest in September 2012 as a multi single low power entry from a location on the Port Hills overlooking Christchurch and we have operated as a multi two high power station in many contests since.
Team members have also embarked on two international DXpeditions, YJ0X Vanuatu 2014, VK9NZ Norfolk Island in 2016 and E6Y Niue in 2018.
